Winter dehydration? Aren’t we supposed to worry about dehydration only during the hotter months? For your information, dehydration is one of the biggest concerns during the colder months too. And sometimes, this health condition slows down our workouts. Well, it doesn’t have to be!

If you wish to stay in tip top shape this winter and you wish to maximize your workouts, here are some tips on how to stay hydrated in winter that you should know about :


Weigh yourself before and after workouts.

If you are not sure how much you should drink after your winter workouts, then the best thing that you can do is to determine your weight before and after workouts. The key is to drink 20 ounces of water for every pound of weight that you have lost.


Drink warm beverages.

This simple tips will let you hit two birds with one stone. Not only will drinking warm beverages keep you hydrated; it can also help you stay warm. So ditch the cold sodas and water and opt for green tea or warm water instead.


Have a water consumption goal.

If you wish to keep dehydration at bay, it is important that you set a water goal every day. You should set your goal based on the amount of water weight you lose every workout. To help you follow through your goal, it is recommended that you keep track of how much you have already drank and always have a water bottle with your wherever you go.



Think more than the drinks.

When we think of hydration, the first thing that would come to mind would be liquids including water, coconut water, teas and many more. But you are forgetting one key element to hydration and it is no other than your diet. Aside from making sure you consume enough liquids, you should also try to include water-rich foods like eggplants, grapefruits, kale, pineapple and many more.


Limit your caffeine or alcohol intake.

Both beverages have diuretic effects and they can make you pee and increase your chances of dehydration. So protect yourself from dehydration and limit the amount of alcohol or coffee that you drink during the winter season.


Monitor your pee.

You should always keep a watch at your pee as this is one great way to keep track of how hydrated you are. If your first pee of the day has a clear to light yellow color, your body is properly hydrated so you are all good. But if it has a pale yellow color, then you need to drink up, my friend!


Stay warm.

You may now know this but staying warm is one great way to prevent dehydration. So dress up during the winter season. Put on layers and layers of clothes and do not forget to pay special attention to your hands and feet ad these are the body parts that easily feel cold the most.
