What’s With The Musty Odor Down There

Causes Of Vaginal Odor

Does your vagina smell good? We know that this is a weird and awkward question, but this is one thing that you should take into consideration when monitoring the health of your vagina. For your information, a funky stench downstairs is not just detrimental to your sexual life—it can be an indication of poor sexual health too. Because of this, you should find ways on how to make your vagina smell good.

But before you do that, you have to first familiarize yourself with the different things that can affect how your vagina smells. With that in mind, here are some of them:

1

Sweat

You may have heard about eating some foods that can make your private parts smell sweet. But the truth is, these foods won’t change the way your vagina smells. What these foods do is that they can make your sweat smell better. So if your sweat smells bad, it may cause your vagina to smell bad too. But if this is the thing that is causing vaginal odor, the smell will only stick around for a few hours. You can eventually get rid of it by washing your feminine parts.

2

Your Menstrual Period

Your period can affect the smell of your vagina because of the surge and dip in progesterone and estrogen during its different stages. But more than that, the presence of old blood will alter the way your vagina smells. At the end of your period, the flow tends to slow down, and there is a chance that your blood will solidify and will take some time before it comes out.

3

Semen

The alkalinity of semen can disrupt the pH of your vagina and eventually, change the way it smells. While most of the semen will drip out of the vagina after sex, there is still a small portion that will remain inside the vagina that may cause its smell. But don’t worry, this change in scent will go away after a few hours once you take a shower.

4

Infection

Once there has been a change in your vagina’s pH or bacteria balance, it may lead to yeast or bacterial infection which may cause your vagina to smell a bit funky. If the vaginal odor is accompanied by itching, inflammation, burning or irritation, it is best that you talk with your gynecologist about it so he can prescribe you the medicines that you need.

5

The Bath Products That You Use

If you switch from one bath product to another on a regular basis, it is most likely that you will experience vaginal odor. This is because the change of bath products can alter the pH of your vagina which will eventually lead to a change in vaginal scent. The same is true if you have started douching which is a big no-no according to experts.

Now that you know what are the possible causes of vaginal odor, you can take the necessary steps on how to make your vagina smell good.
