Treat Itchy Dry Skin on Legs With These Amazing Proven Methods

Dry skin is a common dermatological problem known as asteatosis or xerosis. Because dry skin is most common in the winter, you may know it as “winter itch.” It occurs during winter months due to the reduced humidity in the air. This dermatological problem can happen to anyone at any time and age. Extreme cases of dry skin can even lead to cracking of the skin.

When it comes to dry skin prevention, dermatologists rave about moisturizers that contain alpha hydroxyl acids. Such moisturizers are derived from sugarcane, milk, or fruits. They function to remove scaly, crusty, and dead skin. More importantly, they trap moisture in your skin. Note that some over the counter moisturizers are better than others. Only purchase thicker moisturizers because they provide better dry skin prevention. Here are some proven remedies to heal itchy skin on legs.

1. Change Your Bathing Routine

1. Change your bathing routine

Adjusting your showering routine as well as how often you shower can help heal your itchy skin on legs. When you shower, a lot of natural oils are washed away from your skin. Not only do natural oils help keep your skin moist, but they offer skin protection from damages which might lead to more dryness. Showering too often means that you are washing off more natural oils than what your skin can comfortably replace and this leads to dry legs.

2. Use Olive Oil

Olive oil contains great ingredients for healing dry skin. It contains fatty acids and antioxidants that can also strengthen your skin. To prepare olive oil for dry skin treatment follow this instruction:
Combine brown sugar and some olive oil to form a good paste. Rub the paste on your legs and massage them for a few minutes. Leave the paste on your legs for additional 10 minutes before taking a shower. For better results, use olive oil every day.

You may also want to dab some olive oil on your legs and leave it there overnight. Rinse off in the morning and repeat the procedure every day for better results.

3. Milk Cream

3. Milk Cream

How to heal dry skin on legs isn’t rocket science and anyone can master how to do it. One critical thing to do in order to treat your itchy skin on legs is to exfoliate your dry skin regularly. Milk acid contains lactic acid which serves as an excellent dry skin treatment. Moreover, lactic acid has moisturizing properties which are an added advantage for dry skin.

To make a milk cream treatment for your dry legs, mix some milk cream with a few tablespoons of gram flour to arrive at a good paste. Apply the paste on your legs for approximately 15 minutes. When rinsing the paste off, consider using lukewarm water rather than cold water. Do this every day for the best results.

4. Honey

Honey is another proven way to cure dry skin on legs. Honey has been shown to contain humectants, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties to soothe and soften dry skin. Additionally, honey is packed with vitamins and vital minerals that can excellently improve the health of your skin.
Prepare some beeswax, honey, and olive oil and apply the resulting mixture on your legs. Afterward, massage your legs and leave the paste there for about 10 minutes. After the 10-minute lapse, wash off the paste with water. Repeat this every day for better results.

5. Use Lanolin-Based Creams

Lanolin is considered the best product when it comes to producing longer lasting skin effects. It is made from natural wax derived from wool producing animals such as sheep. Consider coating your legs with lanolin cream like Bag Balm. Repeat every day for one week for better results. Once one week is over, you can proceed to normal layer coating once every four days. Additionally, you may opt to coat your legs during the night and wear your pajamas on top. This will allow the product to sink deep into your skin while you sleep.

6. Use Oils

Oils provide some of the best ways to treat itchy dry skin on legs. Some oils to try include body oil, coconut oil, and baby oil. Oils provide a perfect way to treat dry skin and can help get your skin back to normal. However, using oils doesn’t provide long-lasting dry skin cure. Shaving your legs can be disastrous if you are using oil to treat itchy skin. The oil can block hair follicles and cause irritation leading to ingrown hairs. Therefore, you shouldn’t depend on oil too much.

7. Dry Brushing

7. Dry brushing
Dry brushing can help heal your itchy dry skin on legs. Therefore, consider investing in a bristle, pure brush. Make sure that your brush isn’t too hard to avoid hurting yourself. Try brushing your legs slowly from the back to the front. Make sure you don’t overdo it. After dry brushing, take a shower and apply a high-quality almond, grapeseed, or coconut oil. Lotions can make the situation worse thus avoid them. In case you have a medical complication, consider talking to your health provider prior dry skin brushing.

8. Avoid Overly Exposing Your Skin To The Sun

The sun can be very harsh to the skin. Besides increasing your chances to skin cancer, the sun can also cause irritation to your skin making it dry. Consider wearing light but full covering clothes, such as linen whenever you go outside. If you are not willing or you can’t cover your skin with fabric, use sunscreen. Use broad spectrum UVB/UVA sunscreen and apply as directed. A minimum SPF of 15 should be enough to protect your skin.

Your skin requires specific nutrients in order to stay healthy. Make sure that your diet contains enough of vitamins A, E, and omega-3 fatty acids. You don’t need a dermatologist to examine your skin to determine whether you have dry skin or not. Look out for scaly, rough patches on your back, arms, waist, or legs. These are the areas you are more likely to forget about when you concentrate too much on moisturizing your hands and face.
