How to Get Rid of Nipple Hair

Ingrown hair on breast, is that normal? This is one of the biggest questions that many women have. In fact, many gynecologists claim that this is the most commonly asked question to them.

Many women have this, and they are anxious about having it, so the big question remains—is it normal? Well, we are going to discover the answer to that question in this article:

Is it Normal?

If you take a closer look at our breasts, particularly in the area surrounding the nipple, you will see that it has hair follicles just like the other parts of our skin. So the answer is yes—it is normal.

However, if you notice, nipple hairs come in various lengths and thicknesses. It may vary depending on the gender. Men have longer and thicker hair on the chest while women have finer and shorter hair and these are due to the hormonal differences between both sexes. But sometimes, you will see some women who have nipple hairs that are longer than usual, and this may be a result of hormonal imbalances that are related to menopause, pregnancy, menstruation and puberty. If you are taking birth control pills, this is expected too.

When It is Not Normal

But you also have to know the fact that having nipples on your breast may also be an indication of various abnormal medical conditions. If you notice excessive hair growth on your nipples, then you have a condition called hirsutism, and this condition may be a sign of the following hormonal conditions:

  • Cushing Syndrome
This is a rare hormonal problem, and it is brought about by high levels of cortisol in the body. If you are taking a few corticosteroid medications like prednisone, you are at high risk of this. It may also be the result of having brain tumors or excessive stimulation of adrenal glands.
  • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
This condition is quite common for women, and it is a result of sexual hormonal imbalances which may affect ovulation and the ability to conceive of most women. It may also cause excessive hair growth in the body, including the nipples. Other symptoms include hair loss on the scalp, depression, acne, abnormal menstrual cycles and weight gain.

Removing Nipple Hair

Despite it being normal, many women still feel embarrassed with their nipple hair and they would feel more comfortable when these unwanted hairs are removed. Lucky for you, there are plenty of ways on how to get rid of nipple hair. For one, you can use nail cutter to cut it or removing it with chemical depilatories like lotions, creams, and gel. Other advanced treatments may include electrolysis, hormonal treatments, and laser hair removal.

So, there you go—having an ingrown hair on breast can be normal but it can also be a sign of other medical conditions like the ones mentioned above. The best thing for you to do is to pay a visit to your doctor so you can get to know more about your condition.
